ABOUT US

why we started this blog

Let’s face it. A parent’s worst nightmare is their child falling sick. The shock and anguish of a parent whose kid is diagnosed with a life-threatening condition like cancer cannot be expressed in words… Nor can the pain and suffering of an innocent child whose life has just been turned upside down…

No school, no playdates, no outings to the library, museum, shops, restaurants, or any crowded spaces… Instead, long hospital stays, frequent clinic visits, chemo and its varied side effects, painful shots and blood transfusions… That’s enough to drive any kid nuts…

Yet kids surprise us with their courage and strength! Their playful resilience and ability to live cheerfully in the moment are nothing short of awe-inspiring. It is exactly this spirit that inspired us to start this blog on “Brave Kids Fight Cancer”. We’ve tried to capture this spirit in our children’s book “How Sunshine Returned to Joyland“.

Setting the right expectations...

What this blog is about

As parents of a cancer survivor, we understand how difficult the journey can be. Hence this is an attempt to share ideas and tips that can help kids stay positive, active and creative through their difficult treatment period. We focus mainly on young kids (4-10 year olds). We share examples from what worked for our six year old (including information about her diagnosis and treatment, for your reference). We also offer some helpful resources for parents and kids (books, coping with hair loss, support networks etc).

Finally, a disclaimer that this is partially a vent for our bottled up emotions 🙂

What this blog is NOT about

We are not a charity organization. This is not an exhaustive, one stop shop for info on cancer, treatment, diet, quality of life or such. We are not qualified physicians or cancer experts and don't offer any authoritative claims on what works vs. not. As parents of a cancer survivor, we are simply sharing suggestions based on what worked for us, in the hope that you find something helpful.
